Dances With Wolves--

Do you remember that movie "Dances with Wolves"? I do. Not that it has anything to do with this post other than the fact I wearing wolf earrings. Trying to be witty is not my forte I can tell you that! I was the kid watching the cartoons looking over at my brothers and wondering why they were laughing and then analyzing myself and thinking that there was something wrong with me because I didn't see the humor like they did.
Somewhere along the way I got my funny bone but I still hate it when people tell me jokes. I feel obligated to laugh and 9/10 times I don't think the joke is funny(I get the joke I just don't like the joke). The only jokes I think are hilarious are the ones my kids told me when they were really little and we were in the car on a long road trip. They went something like: knock, knock! (who's there) car! (car who?) car butt that was blue with treetops! har, har, har! and...and...snot with rainbow boogers and..and... (those random bits of what my little ones thought were so hilarious I TOO thought were hilarious!) so I am a joke snob I suppose but only 5yr and under jokes do I find funny!
Sadly another road trip is coming up soon and we no longer have any 5 and under jokesters. Ah well...I'm sure the 7yr old will not disappoint.
I was planning on wearing these Avenue leggings; this exact outfit actually as we visit my Mother this Christmas but unfortunately when I put them on today the seaming on the inside thigh ripped out. I went to order another pair and the shipping date was 12/23 well that's not going to do me any good. I guess I will have to break out the sewing machine. Sometimes I get really irritated at all the menial little things I have to do and this just adds to it. I have enough BIG stuff to accomplish that sewing a seam rakes on my nerves.  I love these earrings! and I think they will fit perfectly into the Arkansas scene well. I mean the last time we visited my Mother in Arkansas  an armadillo was crossing the road. I had never seen one in real life (small things excite me) .

What I wear hanging with the BIRDS--

I don't know about the rest of the world but if I had webbed feet I'd qualify as a DUCK. The rain has been none stop for weeks and it's not letting up anytime soon. So here in OH we have homes flooding and land being washed out. I will count myself lucky then that the only damage I have to contend with is wasted feed and a few heavy items tipped or strewn with the wind.  I've been putting off winterizing my rabbit hutches and just couldn't wait any longer. Hence bales of straw had to lugged to the back hutches esp. where the new babies bunnies are. Once that was done I wrap the open wire areas with two sheets of plastic to keep out the winter cold & wind. So with the bunnies newly crammed with straw hutches & the plastic windows...not to mention the heated water bottles and a few extra veggies treats; they should be set for the first snow fall.

Then it was on to the chicken coop pen where I keep my compost bins. The bins themselves were toppled over and so was my old hutch for rabbits that is currently a brooder in the spring for new hatch lings. The feed was washed out and the fenced in pen is a muddy wasteland.
I do a deep layer method in the winter for my chickens, ducks, turkey. Adding wood chips and straw layers inside the coop along with a few heat lamps to help out the non cold tolerant chicken breeds I have. My flock is a mix of 24 variety chicken breeds from fancy, bantam, rare breeds.

This is what I wear on a standard morning (early) to take care of my mini farm.

Mustard Yellow Mixes Well with My College (or not) Fellow!

I've really enjoyed seeing colored tights on other bloggers but was wary if I could pull off the look. I  see mostly younger women in the blog world wearing them and not mom's. But thanks to Laura from http://theblogofworldlydelights.blogspot.com/ who gave me a suggestion of getting some colored tights, I decided to try it and really like the result. I'm tired of the standard black and as the temps drop I definitely want something to keep me toasty warm. You can't see it but the skirt has maroon polka dots in it so I thought I'd go with maroon tights too. I am loving my Dansko sandals with the tights! and the sandals feel like they were custom made for my feet. I will be searching out and buying more Dansko because they feel so wonderful. The brown sweater with the light pink bow I've had forever. I thrifted it ages ago and never really wore it that much but as I was once again cleaning my closet I ran across it and thought why don't I ever wear you? so I did. I decided to wear two belts. One is yellow and the other animal print. I realize that I have a very squarish body as far as my waist goes because I don't really have a defined one. Overall I felt comfortable all day for my "to do" list was a long one.

One of the things (priority) was to talk to an OSU financial adviser with my son. He has gotten himself into a mess when he decided to take a year off school (famous last words!) I mean you can't just take a year off when you have scholarships and grants etc...some grants become default and thus require payback whereas if he would have kept on keeping on they would not be required to be paid back. Also when you get scholarship money besides a grade requirement there are other conditions!!
On my sons Birthday I wrote him a letter and in that letter I said something to the effect of " I have come to realize Alexander that what I dream for you may not be your dreams; and that's alright!" That statement is still true but I wish you could fast forward in life about 10yrs and then magically go back to where you decided to change the course of your life.
So now we are considering charging him rent, phone, food, car insurance, laundry service, utilities etc..etc...oh and the cost of all this damn dog food!
The reason I am so petty about the dog food is because this is what he has decided to do on a full time basis. TRAIN DOGS! which you have to build clientele and it's commission. I was irritated and told him he's the only person I know that can get a job and still not get paid! this is after a year of US telling him "son, you need to get a job to help pay for school"
Grrrrrr.............
He wants to own his own business training dogs, buy our house and built outside barn with heated stales on the property. All that is wonderful!

But a Degree and then business owner would be BETTER!

What do you think? are we being to rough on the kid or not tough enough?
